Today we went to a local village called Dravo tribe. I was a little hesitant at first to go in fear of taking back dark magic with me : / The people there greeted us with a Kava ceremony. The set up was men in front sitting in a horseshoe shape and the girls sat behind them. None of the girls can have the kava until all the men have drank first..as you might guess I was not in agreement with this trend. When the ceremony was over we went down to watch how they were cooking our lunch on a earth oven. They wrapped the chicken up in coconut leaves (substitute for us using foil) and then cooked it in the oven. Before lunch the girls and boys split up and while the boys learned how to farm and play rugby the girls learned how to make brooms, mats, and bracelets. All of these were e made out of leaves that are soaked in water and dried in the sun. They had a huge feast for us with some interesting dishes. After lunch we were entertained by some dances from the men and woman of Dravo. We also had a chance to come up and dance with them too. Everyone there were in high spirits and had a great sense of humor. The village had small modern Fijian houses but they all faced the main building which we were in most of the day.
The women who showed us how to make the bracelets..she usually pointed and laughed at us
Showing us how to make the brooms..have to strip off all the green and us just the stem
