New Zealand Comedy Festival!

Last night, for my AIFS culture experience, my study abroad group went and saw a Kiwi comedian perform. The venue was called San Francisco Bathouse in downtown Wellington. During this month New Zealand Comedy Festival has been touring through out New Zealand and have been performing at different venues in Wellington this week. One comedian who performed earlier in the week was Arj Barker who plays Dave on Flight of the Conchords who is personally one of my favorite characters. The comedian who we saw is Ben Hurley. His performance was based on evolution and he had a very creative sideshow to go with his gig. Ben was very quick on his toes and was good at responding with the audience. At the start he made fun of some of the people up front and made fun of some American girls and he told them in New Zealand getting made fun of by a comedian is called, "Taking the piss". There was one drunk guy who kept on commenting and yelling stuff at Ben Hurley and surprisingly Ben was very good and taking what the man said and making it a very funny show.  This weekend we also celebrated Jayne's birthday so I have pictures of our mini party as well.

 This is one of Ben's friends who did a small little gig. One of his memorable jokes was: "Boobs are like Pepsi and Coke, we have a preference but we will grab whatever is on top....unless it is flat"

Ben did an experiment: Do I like men?  These were the results. The closer the cock is to him the less he likes it...hence he does not like men

Just a little sample of his gig..here he is talking to a couple (The guy is from the UK and his gf is Kiwi...Ben says "Ah, so you are good at importing men?...then tells the guy he did well and that it is called "betting above your average")

Overall the performance was really enjoyable and a great way to see Kiwi culture and humor!
